STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

A Wisconsin Class D instruction permit is valid for 18 months and requires knowledge, signs, and vision tests.

A permit holder must be accompanied by a qualified licensed driver with at least two years’ driving experience in the passenger seat.

Wisconsin requires absolute sobriety and seat-belt use for instruction-permit drivers; under-18 applicants need 50 hours, including 10 at night, for a probationary license.
