STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

West Virginia’s regular Class E instruction permit is for first-time applicants age 18 or older who have never held a comparable license.

A regular instruction permit holder must have a licensed driver age 21 or older in the front passenger seat.

The regular permit is valid 180 days, and the holder becomes eligible for the road skills test after at least 30 days.
