STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

A Washington instruction permit is valid for one year and may be renewed for a fee.

Permit drivers must have a licensed driver with at least five years’ experience and may not use a phone or mobile device except to call 911.

Teens seeking a first license generally complete 40 daytime and 10 nighttime practice hours and hold the permit at least six months.
