STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

Utah learner permits require a 50-question closed-book written knowledge test; scores and permits are valid for 18 months.

Applicants ages 15–17 generally hold the permit six months and complete 40 practice hours, including 10 after sunset.

Applicants age 19 or older may avoid the 90-day holding period by completing approved driver education, but still need 40 practice hours unless otherwise specified.
