STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

Tennessee learner-permit applicants must be 15 and pass standard written exams and vision screening.

A learner permit requires a licensed driver age 21 or older in the front seat and prohibits driving 10 p.m.–6 a.m.

The permit must be held 180 days before moving to the intermediate restricted step.
