STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

Rhode Island uses learner instructional, learner provisional, and full operator levels for drivers under 18.

An adult 18 or older with a learner’s permit may take the road test after holding it 30 days; the DMV page says supervision is not required during that interval.

The operator manual’s online version marks relevant testing material for focused study.

Permit eligibility, documents, fees, and appointment details can change. Confirm those details with Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles before you go.
