STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

North Dakota requires a Rules of the Road knowledge test and vision screening for a learner permit.

A permit driver must have a qualified supervisor in the front seat; electronic communication devices are prohibited while driving.

Ages 14–15 generally hold the permit at least a year (never less than six months), while ages 16–17 generally hold it six months.
