STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

A regular Mississippi learner’s permit is available at age 15 with school-enrollment proof, is valid for two years, and requires knowledge and eye exams.

Applicants generally must hold the permit 12 months before a Class R license; applicants age 17 or older have a same-day path described by the Bureau.

The Bureau directs applicants to its manual and mentor guide; use the mentor guide to turn rules into supervised practice conversations.

Permit eligibility, documents, fees, and appointment details can change. Confirm those details with Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Driver Service Bureau before you go.
