STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

Indiana’s knowledge exam has separate traffic-maneuver and traffic-sign components; each component requires at least 80 percent correct.

A learner’s permit can be obtained at age 15 with enrollment in approved behind-the-wheel training, or at 16 without driver education, subject to the BMV requirements.

Indiana requires at least 50 supervised practice hours, including 10 at night unless the permit has a daytime-only restriction.

Permit eligibility, documents, fees, and appointment details can change. Confirm those details with Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles before you go.
