Before your appointment.
An Illinois applicant must pay the fee, pass vision screening and the applicable written exam, and provide the required identification documents for an instruction permit.
Ages 15–17 generally must be enrolled in an approved driver-education course; an adult supervisor must be at least 21, licensed for the vehicle, and have at least one year of driving experience.
An instruction permit under 18 is valid for two years and must be held at least nine months before a driver license is issued.
