STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

A Class D instruction permit allows an applicant age 17 or older to practice for one year with a licensed adult age 18 or older.

Applicants under 18 must show school enrollment or completion and have a liability signer before an instruction permit or license can be issued.

Idaho’s handbook separates traffic laws from the driving task and sharing the road; study each as a decision skill, not just a vocabulary list.

Permit eligibility, documents, fees, and appointment details can change. Confirm those details with Idaho Transportation Department before you go.
