BEFORE YOU GO

Permit Test Day Checklist

Use a short checklist to reduce avoidable surprises, then confirm every document and appointment detail with your state agency.

01

Confirm the official details

Open your state’s permit page before you leave. Check the office or testing location, appointment instructions, accepted documents, fees, vision or knowledge-test steps, and any age or supervision requirements. Those details are state-specific and can change.

02

Bring only what your agency lists

Prepare the identification, residency, consent, insurance, or vehicle documents that your agency explicitly requires for your situation. Do not rely on a national checklist or an older social post when the official page gives different instructions.

03

Review decisions, not just signs

Before the appointment, revisit missed questions and explain why the correct action protects space, visibility, or another road user. Review signs and markings, then stop studying early enough to arrive alert.

04

After the result

If you need another attempt, record which topics were difficult and return to the handbook section that covers them. A practice score here is a study signal, not a prediction of an official result.

Remember this

Your state agency decides what you need on test day; use this page to remember to check.
