STATE CHECKLIST

Before your appointment.

Connecticut’s learner-permit knowledge test has 25 questions; 20 correct answers are needed to pass.

A learner must be at least 16 and pass both vision and knowledge tests; the permit is valid until licensing or two years, whichever comes first.

For a 16- or 17-year-old permit holder, passenger limits apply and the supervising instructor must sit in the front passenger seat, alert and ready to take control.

Permit eligibility, documents, fees, and appointment details can change. Confirm those details with Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles before you go.
