Before your appointment.

A Colorado instruction permit follows a written test; a licensed Colorado driver age 21 or older must sit in the front passenger seat while the permit holder drives.

Minors generally must hold the first instruction permit for 12 months before applying for a license and submit a 50-hour log with 10 hours at night.
